Branches in the WEA enjoy the get together atmosphere of the Branch Forum. A Branch Forum meeting takes place each term and keeps our members up-to-date with developments inside and outside of the organisation. We also reflect the creativity of our work in these forums by inviting writers, artists, musicians, media personalities, photographers, and actors to share their knowledge and talent with us. The Branch Forum provides on-the-ground opportunities for WEA staff, branch members, tutors, students, and other friends, to meet each other, build relationships, and contribute to the way the WEA organises its classes in the community.
The Branch Forum is one of the ways in which the WEA invites people to take part in the organisation, to develop its wide range of educational opportunities for people in local communities. It is also a great way of getting a wider understanding of the WEA and what it does, and experiencing the positive effects of volunteering. The meetings usually take place on a Saturday in the Glenavon Hotel in Cookstown. In order to make the Branch Forum an accessible event, participants’ travel expenses are provided. Starting at 10am and finishing at 1pm, the meeting closes with what really is, a free lunch!
