Breif Outline of Course Content: The Foundation qualification enables candidates to develop basic craft skills and underpinning knowledge of the creative craft process and provides a basis for progression into other study. The Intermediate qualification extends both existing craft skills to an intermediate level and knowledge of the creative craft process and provides a basis for progression into further study or employment in the creative industries.
Course Description:
 
The Creative Craft qualifications will provide a platform for people to develop their creativity and channel it into a career, as such they are particularly relevant for those seeking employment in the creative industries sector.

At the Foundation Level participants will learn basic skills in using the chosen materials, how to produce items in accordance with set targets and how to present the final craft item.  There are a wide variety of media options available at the Foundation level, including: pottery, stage crafts, toy making, seasonal crafts, furniture, fashion, mosaics, garden design, and photography

The focus of the Intermediate Certificate is on the craft process rather than any specific craft.   Participants will learn how to use raw materials, tools and equipment safely and competently, develop analytical and research skills, evaluate their own work and develop ideas and learning through the craft process
Who is it for? The Foundation Certificate is suited to wide variety of learners who are interested in gaining a creative crafts qualification.  The Intermediate Certificate is suitable for learners who want to develop their understanding of the creative craft process and/or seek further study or employment in the creative industries

 

Aims:

The aims at Foundation level are:
  1. To explore available resources to develop basic craft skills
  2. To explore and develop ideas creatively
  3. To create, present and review final craft items

The aims at Intermediate level are:
  1. To extend and further develop learners’ creative craft skills
  2. To extend learners’ knowledge and understanding of the creative craft process
  3. To extend learners’ understanding of health and safety issues relating to craft work
  4. To provide the opportunity for personal development
  5. To provide a basis for progression on to further study
